Congratulations to Derek Bourabah for successfully defending his PhD thesis "Principal Moment of Inertia Estimation of Tethered Debris"! Derek is one of the first students to join the UB SSDC Lab and the first Ph.D. student graduating from the Lab, so these are very exciting times!
Derek started working on tethered satellite systems from a blank script and as an undergraduate student, then moved on to an NSF project for his Ph.D. dissertation. He won 2 best student papers at international conferences for this work, and published 5 journal papers. He will be joining Blue Origin as a Navigation Engineer on their Lunar Permanence project!
